I had my interview on Wednesday (1st April) and it went amazingly well!
I was feeling reasonably confident because it was one to one and the whole atmosphere was really relaxed.. I just started showing my Graphics books and kept talking and talking about the projects and what I did in each one and why. The lady interviewing me was quite impressed and just kept saying "oh I like this!" and it just turned out we have quite similar taste, we both like stamps and old photographs, we both collect clothes tags we like and Penguin bookcovers..
Just the usual stuff really
Anyway I showed all of my recent work (from this year) and some of last year's and then she just went "I'm quite happy to offer you a place already"
I was like
Just went "really???"
I didn't expect it to go so well, on the open day a week ago they said that there were a lot of applicants and that only the best will get offers. I would've never thought that I'd get accepted without doing the Art Foundation first.
Oh well, she said I'm already ahead of some of the other applicants with a Foundation and that there is no need for me to do it.
It's all good news and I'm really happy... but there's always a dilemma..
I started looking up Portsmouth on the Internet to find out information about tuition fees and stuff (believe it or not I didn't do it earlier because I didn't think I'd get in anyway.. ) and I found some very disturbing threads e.g. :
www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showt…I don't know what do do now... I need to make a decision before the 18th and I have no idea if I should make my decision upon University reputation or other factors. You can argue that if you'r good enough it doesn't matter where you study right?
HELP!!! :S
EDIT: I made my final decision and declined the offer from Portsmouth. I am going to do the Art Foundation and then apply to Brighton next year ( and put is a first choice this time! ) I never really looked at the financial point of view until 2 days ago when I started thinking about accommodation and maintenance costs.. I really don't see why was I going to give up the opportunity to live at home and have almost no costs and be able to save up instead of going away and getting into more than £30,000 of debt ??
I know that some people want to go away from home and be independent but I care about my future and would regret it later when I have to spend decades repaying loans that may be seen as "unnecessary".
Hopefully next year I will be well prepared for my interview in Brighton and study where I've always wanted to!
